Sex and the Law: The law recognises that young people may be curious about their sexuality and may want to explore this with people they like. Having sex is a big step. It can lead to STI’s and unplanned pregnancies – it can involve complex emotional issues and decisions. It is important to feel in control and make decisions that are right for you, and decisions within the legal frameworks in Australia.
Legally you are not allowed to have sex with anyone until you are over the age of consent. In this session young people can find out just how old they and their partner(s) are required to be by law. We’ll investigate the meanings behind the legal terminology and the consequences of under-age sexual activity. This 1.5 hour, sex-positive and gender inclusive session investigates ‘sexting’, as well as taking a look at the influences of pornography.
